Vitalik Buterin hopes Dogecoin and Zcash will move to PoS soon

It’s only been a few days since we informed you about the transition of the Ethereum cryptocurrency from the Proof of Work (PoW) to Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, and we already have interesting news on this topic, coming directly from the founder of the second most valuable cryptocurrency, Vitalik Buterin. In his own words, he hopes that the two prominent cryptocurrencies Dogecoin and Zcash will soon switch to PoS and thus follow in the footsteps of Ethereum. He expressed this opinion at Messari Mainnet 2022, where, among others, the founder of Zcash, Zooko Wilcox-O’Hearn, also participated.

On September 23rd, Messari co-founder and CEO Ryan Selkis moderated a conversation between Vitalik Buterin and Zooko Wilcox (also founder and CEO of Electric Coin Company). The Zcash developers were also asked if they were thinking about moving from the PoW consensus mechanism to PoS, to which they replied, “We’ve literally been waiting to see what we can learn from Ethereum. I guess what we’ve learned is that it actually works.“ Many may not remember this, but this isn’t the first time Buterin has called for Zcash to go PoS. He said the same thing in 2018, to which Zooko replied that he would wait until Ethereum did it to see what would happen. Now that it has happened, they have a good opportunity to do so.
